Darren Brown - Voodoo

Posted in Myths on March 4th, 2008 by moody

Watch master manipulator and great skeptic Darren Brown, as he totally shatters (in a positive way) any delusions this girl had. Truly amazing to watch. I will try to post more of his videos in the future.

Top 10 Unexplained Phenomena

Posted in Myths, Science on March 7th, 2007 by moody

Alien.gif I was reading through livescience.com website and I came across their Top 10 Unexplained Phenomena so i thought i post it here since it is pretty interesting. Here we go:

Number 10: The Body/Mind Connection
Medical science is only beginning to understand the ways in which the mind influences the body. The placebo effect, for example, demonstrates that people can at times cause a relief in medical symptoms or suffering by believing the cures to be effective—whether they actually are or not. Using processes only poorly understood, the body’s ability to heal itself is far more amazing than anything modern medicine could create.

Number 9: Psychic powers and ESP
Psychic powers and extra-sensory perception (ESP) rank among the top ten unexplained phenomena if for no other reason than that belief in them is so widespread. Many people believe that intuition (see #3) is a form of psychic power, a way of accessing arcane or special knowledge about the world or the future. Researchers have tested people who claim to have psychic powers, though the results under controlled scientific conditions have so far been negative or ambiguous. Some have argued that psychic powers cannot be tested, or for some reason diminish in the presence of skeptics or scientists. If this is true, science will never be able to prove or disprove the existence of psychic powers.  Read the rest of this entry »

Now, this might be a hoax or just a way for big and small companies to make you buy their most expensive mulch but its worth reading, especially if you own a home.
Here it goes:

If you use mulch around your house be very careful about buying mulch this year. After the Hurricane in New Orleans many trees were blown over. These trees were then turned into mulch and the state is trying to get rid of
tons and tons of this mulch to any state or company who will come and haul it away. Read the rest of this entry »

Licking envelopes myth

Posted in Myths on February 4th, 2006 by moody

Ok, here it goes.

crankyface.jpg A few months ago I got one of those “amusing” emails you get from your friends.

Here is what email said:

“A woman licked an envelope in a local post office and cut her tongue, after several days the place where she’d been cut began to swell. She started to get nervous and went to see a doctor. The doctor cut open the swelled area and a cockroach climbed out, there had been eggs on the envelope she had licked.”

Now, that made me little cranky, but what a hell I replied anyway.

Here is my reply: Read the rest of this entry »
