Kohl’s scam
Just wanted to share little episode which happened at Kohl’s today and it really pissed me off.
I had a $50 gift card from my parents for retailer Kohl’s and I went to buy me some dockers for work. Everything in the store was on “sale”. Everything. Red sales stickers everywhere. Before I start looking for pants I went to the shirt department to buy one more shirt that I bought last week at this same store but different color. I noticed that big red sales sticker said:” 50% off Reg$40 - SALE $19.95″. Last time when there was no Black Friday or thanksgiving sale same shirt was $30 but it was on sale for $14.95, but this time when there is a “big sale” in town, same shirt costs $19.95 on SALE. Are you fucking kidding me? Anyway, I put the shirt down and went to pants department.
I fond two pairs that I wanted. The big red SALES sticker said “Price $29.95 SALE price given at the register”. So I thought my $50 gift card would cover both pairs nicely given the discount which is given at the register. Not so. Once I got to the register sales person said $63 something. I told her about what the big sales sticker said and she said that $29.95 IS the sales price. Either she was stupid or was jerking me around.I could not take someone taking me for a fool so I’ve asked her to come with me to the stand where I found dockers despite long line behind me.
Following can be explained through my conversation with her.
We got to the pants department and I said:
Me: Miss (I am already boiling),Can you read out loud what the sticker says?
Sales person: Price $29.95 SALE price given at the register, but I still think that $29.95 is sales price.
Me: I point out to the stand and said: “is this the sales register?”
Sales person: No. Registers are at the front of the store. I don’t understand
Me: Well, let me explain it to you.(I said this very arrogantly. I just didn’t care anymore). If this is not the sales register and sticker says that the sales price will be given AT THE REGISTER then all customers can safely assume that this ($29.95) is NOT the sales price since you will give me the sales price AT THE REGISTER.
Sales person: Ohhh, I see what you mean. it is kind of misleading (it is after i spent good three minutes explaining first grade logic to her). Let me call manager.
Manager came and after sales person explain it to her manager what the issue was, manager said: I know where you coming from. It is misleading.
Me: Am I the only one that noticed this?
Manager: I think you are. We never had any complaints about it (no one noticed it? Are you kidding me?? People are stupid), but not that you mentioned it I see what you mean. Hmmm?
Me: It is a standard trick used by stores to lure customers into spending more.
Manager: I can assure you it is not.
At this point I wanted to say so many things but good thing is I did not.
Me: Ok, whatever, lets just get this over with so I can be on my way.
I paid $63 something since I had to spend my Kohl’s card at the Kohl’s anyway, but if it was my money I would throw those pants in their faces and left.
What worries me though is that Kohl’s (and other stores as well) hire people totally oblivious of whats going on in their stores and on what they’re actually selling to customers. Or are they? Either way it’s bad. I also learned or verified that Americans will buy anything with the SALE sticker on it regardless of the price. My wife and I actually never buy at the holiday discounts (unless we have gift cards or something like that), since we know it is all one big lie. It is a scam! There are no discounts. People, WAKE UP!!! Actually, on the other hand. Don’t wake up. Your useless and mindless spending is what keeps economy going. Fuck it I don’t care, but here is the actual tip:
Start buying for summer clothes at the beginning of the fall and for winter clothes at the beginning of the summer. You can found some nice deals then since they have to get rid of the summer clothes when winter is approching and vice versa. Forget the holidays discounts. Only thing that you will gain during holidays shopping is possible ulcer and high blood pressure.

And during during the holiday shopping season, the roads are too busy. Another reason to wait till after the holidays are over.
