Hmmmm...Maybe everyone that has uttered a word in this thread is right in a way.

Iraq isn't the enemy,a bad economy,a terrible educational system, and finally oil and the stupidity of their leader are the problems...Many say that the invasion wasn't needed, many say that it's for oil...

If the world would have seriously needed the oil under the Iraqi lands,be sure that there would have been no way of stopping the world in getting it...The US... I'm thinking about the US,do any people think that the US had no right to invade a country suspect of helping terrorism?...Don't say that Saddam doesn't know Osama ( Usama ),don't even imagine for a minute that they didn't...I can imagine many reasons to invade Iraq, one thing could make me feel bad,and that would be to take their oil in an unfair manner. That country needs that oil to help it's economy recover after the pillage by people like Saddam and his family, friends, and allies.

As for weapons of mass destruction...Everyone that ever ate at McDonalds probably has them lol...Seriously though,no,I personally don't think that Iraq had them.... This time.

Scorch, I think you are buying into Bush's propaganda. I just cannot comprehend how can anyone think that Iraq had WMD before we attacked. It is true they had them before, and were developing them, but Sadam's defeat in Iran, our invasion of Kuwait and liberation of that country and years of UN inspections (which were working!!!) completely obliterated his arsenal. This was what the UN inspectors were saying before the invasion! "We cannot verify that they still have them and inspections were working." They were asking for more time. And after the invasion, we found NOTHING! NOT A SINGLE WMD!!!! And to justify this by saying "oh they had moved them somewhere else," may be sold to 5 year olds but not to me.

The fact that a former Sadam general is saying this, who was probably under intense scrutiny by the US after the invasion due to his role in Iraq's former regime, tells me nothing. This is how we got in the trouble in the first place: we believed every word of the few Iraqi defectors who told us they were preparing a nuclear attack. And despite the fact that parts of the intellegence community were saying (i.e. Wilson) "look this doesn't match with our information," the administration ignored this. So there is no doubt that the administration maniupalated the intelligence, which doesn't mean they did not believe that Iraq had them. But the consciously ignored opposing advice, accepted shady advice on its face value, and ignored most of the world's political establishment and masses.

Whoever thinks that things are getting better in Iraq lives in a world different than mine. The country is on the bring of sectarian violence, the economy is in shatters, and the formerly ethnically mixed neighborhoods are being emptied as people move into the ethnically homogenous neighborhoods, the processes that also happened prior and during the Bosnian war. I hope this doesn't happen and it is not certain that it will, but the country is a mess.

Finally, I do think the invasion had something to do with the oil, but it doesn't explain the whole thing. This administration's ideology comes from the neo-conservatives and their "American century project" of the American enterprise institute. The idea behind is that the US, as the sole superpower, has to exert power and force wherever and whenever and for whatever reasons in order to show the world who the superpower is. So, I do agree with xcwillix, that is about control and power.
