That was funny.
It is especially sad that we even have to talk about this.
Message to the public: GROW UP!

Give me a break with the moonbattery. My comparison, although completely over your simplistic mind, shows that eye-for-an-eye is a common theme amongst humans and the US handles the concept a lot better than most. If you compare "justice" as dolled out by the US compared to other nations the only thing you'll find is that those other nations have LACKLUSTER accounting.

Amnesty international can kiss my rear end. Fair trial is alive and well in the US and thier opinion of how to handle an animal is flawed.

As for costs of housing inmates: are you insane? Do you think prisions are profit-showing institutions? The costs of appeals is not paid for by tax dollars. I'm sure you have supporting data for your claims.

And lastly, theasylum: what do you know about jesus? Seriously? Can you quote the biblical passage that says peacefull/lawfull citizens should be freely murdered by those willing to carry out such acts?

The Amnesty International Human Rights organization has listed the US several times as disrespectful of human rights due to the death penalty, which has resulted in minors being killed in Texas. And now with the Bush administration's explicit policy condoning torture, we are on our way to becoming number 1 on the Amnesty's black list. Yaaay. Hoorah for W.

And Ash, even after moody pointed out you were comparing US to Taliban, you kept doing it. Why don't you look at the EU countries, which have much less crime per capita compared to the US, and yet have no death penatly. In all the 25 states of the EU death penalty has been outlawed as inhumane. It also does not deter further crime or this country would have been crime free by now.

Finally, to your financial argument--that it takes money to house people in prisons for life--this is another misconception. It takes more money to fund death row inmates' appeals over several decades and to execute them than to have them in prison for the rest of their life. I was talking to a former KY Supreme Court justice about this who pointed out the ridiculousness of this claim.

But if you want to keep using the Taliban as your standard of decency ash, than the US is not doing so bad.

"Very bad people are given a fair trail and sentanced to death for thier deeds because otherwise we house them and take care of thier medical needs for life. I don’t think society should have to shoulder the financial burden of a few bad apples."

Putting a monetary value on human life? I think Jesus would have freaked on that.

Whatsa matta you? Those aren't even "per capita". Totally invalid.

Taliban used capitol punishment like candy. In the US its used sparingly. Don't pretend that capitol punishment is public hanging or some other horrendoous thing. Very bad people are given a fair trail and sentanced to death for thier deeds because otherwise we house them and take care of thier medical needs for life. I don't think society should have to shoulder the financial burden of a few bad apples. Do you? If I get drunk tomorrow will you fund my travels to other states? I want to be wise like you so buy me airfare/accomidations to Denver i've always wanted to see the rockies :)

"I would also like a comparison of state-mandated deaths to taliban-mandated deaths (in afghanistan prior to un occupation)."

You're comparing US with Afganistan now?

And now back to graphs. You were talking about speeding tickets and misdeminors. I just looked at the assults and murders.
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_ass (assults) USA is number 1 in the world
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph-T/cri_mur (mrders) USA is number 6 in the world right below Mexico and South Africa. Two very "civilized" countries.

My comment above was refereing to "civilized" countries, and You're comparing it to fricking Afganistan and God knows what.
Don't get me wrong, there are probably more good things here then bad but if we don't talk about about bad things too , then whats the point? I cannot talk about hippies and flowers on this site. Its a crankypot for Christ sake not a flowerpot.

I think you need to get out more. Maybe see states first, and then we'll talk about it.

Ha. Personal attacks don't substantiate your fantasy-land political views.

I'm waiting for state-mandated-death totals (of retards) from the last year. Please provide a chart or graph that substantiates this claim. I would also like a comparison of state-mandated deaths to taliban-mandated deaths (in afghanistan prior to un occupation).
And the rest of those wild claims could use a chart of graph too. Like the crime rate, which accounts for speeding tickets and misdemeanors. You probably didn't know this but a lot of countries don't have as many drivers as we do. I think a fair comparison on the world stage is in order here, otherwise your statistics are just agenda-paintings.

The US is a nation of free will. You are free to go rent whatever garbage you like as long as you adhere to public standards of decency.

Ok, the conservatives in this country need to grow the fuck up. If people like John Aschroft are so frustrated that they get a hard on every time they see a nude statue (and a statue of Justice at that!) maybe they need to have more sex or hmmm, let me think, thinking, thinking....masturbate! God, the world would be such an easier place to live if more adults acted like adults. IF parents don't want to have their children watch nudity, they could aaaa I don't know..MAYBE NOT LET THEM WATCH IT! I mean, this country sure talks a lot about personal responsibility but when it comes down to it, they are willing to let the government take care of their children.

And bravo to moody's posting about this: this country went through a collective neurosis over Janet Jackson's breast showing, but yet every news channel in the fucking country showed how we bombed Bagdhad when we invaded them! Every channel showed the battle of Falujja. Local channels frequently show gun shows!

The conservatives who are afraid of nudity and yet ok with violence have a problem. My advice to them: jerk off! Or get laid!
