Morbid news or morbid public?

Posted in News and Media on February 19th, 2006 by moody

Wanted to share some of my thoughts on today’s media and news broadcasting.
Here are few today’s headlines:

crankyface.jpg

-Muslims Assault U.S. Embassy in Indonesia
-Scientist say California quake could cause Katrina II
-Tens of Thousands Lack Power in Northeast
-Filipino Victims Buried in Mass Grave

Is it just me or all of the stations and news providers are bringing ONLY bad news?
I don’t really blame them since they are doing it for ratings. News stations will go where the money and ratings is. No question about it, but what I do resent is that public curiosity became so morbid and dark that anything related to mass deaths or chopping the heads off will bring them to the computer screen or make them read it. A decade ago we had only a small percentage of people surfing the net for news like that, and you could find it only on certain sites which are gaining in popularity these days. Right now everyone is doing it. Yahoo, MSN, etc. Every time I go to yahoo to read the news I am left out with emptiness and feeling depressed and I just want to blow my fricking brains out, since the world is coming to an end (at least according to the news)

Cheney Shoots a Man

Posted in Politics on February 12th, 2006 by Fyodor

Well, he has lied about WMD, he has taken a nation into a war, he has traded with Iran during our embargo against them, he has been in charge of a corporation that has embazzled millions of dollars from Americans (Enron), he has outed an undercover CIA agent to spite her husband, and now: he has shot a man! He sprayed a man with shotgun pellets!
This is what happens when you give Cheney a gun!

Are Terrorist Winning?

Posted in Politics on February 10th, 2006 by moody

crankyface.jpg Just watching and reading about Bush’s campaign trying to promote eavesdropping on American public.

This is a quote from the man himself:

“I wake up every morning thinking about a future attack, and therefore, a lot of my thinking, and a lot of the decisions I make are based upon the attack that hurt us.”
First question: He thinks?
Second: What a hell is that mean?
Personally I have nothing against eavesdropping. Simply because I have nothing to hide and I don’t plan to blow up anything, but from moral standpoint any sane human being would reject the idea. If some NSA agent wants to listen dirty conversations between my wife and me, let him. Maybe he’ll learn something.

Ban rock concerts and football games?

Posted in Politics on February 9th, 2006 by moody

crankyface.jpg Republican legislator Clel Baudler from Des Moines (Iowa) said and I quote:
“We could simplify law enforcement’s job if we didn’t have rock concerts. We could simplify their job a lot quicker if we just didn’t have football games there where we arrest hundreds of drunks over the weekend.”

I think that’s not a bad idea. Even better. We could simply invoke marshal law again and there wouldn’t be anyone to arrest after lets say 7PM (time for cartoons yeey)

Or, even better. We could simplify law enforcement job if there were no people at all in Iowa.

Censorship madness

Posted in Life on February 7th, 2006 by moody

crankyface.jpg The other day I was flipping through channels and they were showing movie Casino on USA Network. I though “hmmm. I already watched it few times but I could watch this movie every day”. Bad mistake. Watching this movie on USA network (or on any other national channels) is like steel shaft being driven through my head.
Why? Censorship!
I’d say good 60% of dialogue was turned into annoying bleeps and changed to a “family friendly” dialogue.

God is Dead. And Man has killed him.

Posted in Politics on February 6th, 2006 by Fyodor

crankyface.jpgOk, I am sorry that my first post has to be political, but the current political state of affairs in this nation really riles me up. I think that every time I see or hear Bush speak, I get another ulcer on my stomach and my blood pressure goes through the roof.

This morning I read that the president’s new Budget calls for numerous cuts in order to control the spending. What kind of cuts? Read the rest of this entry »

Saw (The Movie) Review

Posted in Movies on February 6th, 2006 by moody

crankyface.jpgEven though this movie is two years old I have to get my steam out.
Friend and I went to see it at the time it came out. Previews looked pretty good.
30 minutes into the movie friend of mine wanted his money back. I pursued him to stay little longer hoping the movie will get better, but it didn’t. It got really bad. Read the rest of this entry »

Traffic light ballet

Posted in Life on February 5th, 2006 by moody

I am sure that you all experienced traffic crankiness more then few times in your life.

crankyface.jpgOne of the most annoying aspects of traffic to me is not the drivers itself (even though that’s debatable) but traffic lights.

Imagine a long and busy street with traffic stop light every 50 yards or so. (There are many of them in mid west). You are in your car and there are 50 cars in front of you, so before you reach that first traffic stop light all of those cars will have to go through that light. Finally after 10 agonizing minutes you’re the sixth car in a row and you have your pedal to the metal and then? RED!

Licking envelopes myth

Posted in Myths on February 4th, 2006 by moody

Ok, here it goes.

crankyface.jpg A few months ago I got one of those “amusing” emails you get from your friends.

Here is what email said:

“A woman licked an envelope in a local post office and cut her tongue, after several days the place where she’d been cut began to swell. She started to get nervous and went to see a doctor. The doctor cut open the swelled area and a cockroach climbed out, there had been eggs on the envelope she had licked.”

Now, that made me little cranky, but what a hell I replied anyway.

Here is my reply: Read the rest of this entry »

Business Proposition

Posted in Shopping on February 4th, 2006 by moody

True story.

crankyface.jpg My wife and I love sparkling water or mineral water, and we usually get few bottles every week from Meijer. They cost $0.69 per bottle, but the problem is they are always out, which means people are buying it.

Last couple of weeks we were sparkling waterless.

Anyway, few weeks ago I went to Meijer to get some mineral water and guess what? They were out again. I took a piece of paper and wrote down:

Dear Meijer management team, Read the rest of this entry »
